What does working with me look like for an eating disorder?

Are you looking for compassionate, specialist support for an eating disorder—particularly binge eating, ARFID, or eating struggles linked to ADHD or trauma?
I'm Becky Grace, a BABCP-accredited CBT and EMDR therapist offering online and in-person eating disorder therapy. This post answers a question I often receive during enquiries:
What does working with you for an eating disorder actually look like?

Who I Work With
I work with all eating disorders, but I specialise in:
-
Binge Eating Disorder, especially when it co-occurs with ADHD
-
ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder) when there's a traumatic component—such as emetophobia (fear of vomiting) or chronic health anxiety
-
Clients who are neurodivergent (ADHD or Autism), especially those with a history of trauma or sensory sensitivities
If you're searching for support with binge eating and ADHD, or trauma-informed ARFID treatment, you're in the right place.
My Background and Approach
Before I started my private practice, I worked in an NHS Adult Eating Disorders Service supporting people with moderate to severe eating disorders, including those where physical health was at serious risk.
I’m trained in:
-
CBT-E (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders)
-
CBT-T (CBT for non-underweight disordered eating)
-
MANTRA (for Anorexia)
-
CBT-AR (CBT for ARFID)
-
EMDR (for trauma-related components)

I've worked with the full range of eating disorders: Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, ARFID, OSFED, and complex cases involving trauma or neurodivergence.
Unlike many NHS services, I continue to offer ARFID treatment privately—something I’m deeply passionate about, especially for people who haven’t been able to access support elsewhere.
A Holistic, Person-Centred Approach#
Therapy with me is never one-size-fits-all.
I bring a holistic approach that blends:
-
Evidence-based therapy models
-
Body-based and sensory-informed work
-
Trauma support using EMDR
-
Mind-body practices from my background as a Yoga Teacher and Personal Trainer
Having personally recovered from an eating disorder that crossed the diagnostic criteria for Anorexia, Bulimia, and Binge Eating Disorder over a 30-year period, I understand that eating disorders are deeply personal. What works for one person may not work for another.
What Eating Disorder Therapy with Me Looks Like
Every therapy journey is tailored to you—but here’s a general overview of what to expect when you begin working with me:
1–2 Sessions: Assessment
We explore your eating patterns, mental health, and history in detail. I assess for dissociation, neurodivergence, and trauma-related factors that may be affecting your eating.
1–2 Sessions: Collaborative Goal Setting
We create meaningful goals that reflect your values. These guide our work together and keep things focused.
Early Sessions: Eating Patterns and Dissociation
We begin building more consistent eating habits. This stage might also include exploring rules you hold around food, and any experiences of zoning out or feeling disconnected while eating.
4–6 Sessions: Rebuilding Regular Eating
We work gently on developing regular meals and snacks, using behavioural strategies from CBT-E or CBT-AR. This is especially important for binge eating recovery or ARFID treatment.
Ongoing Work: Thoughts, Emotions, and Trauma
As your eating stabilises, we explore deeper layers: self-criticism, perfectionism, trauma, or body image struggles. If appropriate, this stage may involve EMDR therapy for trauma processing.
Emotional Regulation and Evolving Goals
Recovery can stir up feelings that were previously numbed. We’ll work together on emotional regulation tools and review your goals as you grow.
Therapy Is Flexible and Collaborative
This process is not rigid or prescriptive. We go at your pace. Whether you're dealing with ARFID and trauma, binge eating and ADHD, or a combination of factors, therapy with me is relational, compassionate, and responsive to your needs.
You don’t need to be in crisis to reach out. Many of my clients come to me because they’re ready for something more meaningful than just symptom management—they’re ready for healing.
